·   Only Peoples distinctive is Language, no other distinctives acknowledged in defining a people.

·   Peoples list = Language list

·   Approximately 75% of JPII Peoples list follows this pattern.  Papua New Guinea being exemplary.

·   This particular pattern probably covers most all peoples outside of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Somalia and parts of China.

·   Primary distinctive is Language.

·   Secondary distinctives determining People Groups are Religion, Caste, Location, or others, to the extent that such differences constitute significant barriers to relationships or communication within a larger grouping.

·   Allows for multiple peoples speaking the same language but peoples are unique because of some factor other than language i.e. the secondary distinctives.

·   Allows for instances of one people speaking multiple languages, but there is still one primary language spoken by all individuals in the group.

·   Secondary distinctives can also be any of Language, Religion, Caste or Location.

 

·   Does not include social, economic, generational or occupational distinctives

 

·   NOTE: C-1 and B-1 Patterns are the same e.g.
C-1-2 = B-1-2, C-1-3 = B-1-3, C-1-4 = B-1-4
where Language is primary distinctive.  This means that the Extended Ethno-Cultural model fully encompasses the traditional Ethno-Linguistic model. 

 

·   Permits one people to speak multiple languages if some distinctive other than language is the primary distinctive.  Not necessarily one primary language spoke by all individuals in the group.
